HISTORY OF AWESOME “A” SHRINE CLUB

On May 8 2002, 13 nobles of the Al Malaikah Shrine gathered at the Ararat home in Mission Hills Ca., to discuss  the formation of a new shrine club under the bylaws of the Al Malaikah Shrine. The participants of the meeting discussed the name, objectives, and the bylaws of the club. Within the next few weeks, extensive work was done. The club was named the Awesome “A” Shrine Club upon the suggestion of Nobles GeorgeYacoobian and Bob Kirklin. In June 2002, the participating Nobles turned a petition to the Al Malaikah Shrine Temple, requesting  the formation of the new Shrine Club. On July 8, 2002, at the stated meeting of the Al Malaikah Shrine Illustrious Sir Merl H Seastrom, Potentate of the Al Malaikah Shrine and his Divan granted the request for the formation of the Awesome “A” Shrine Club. The letter “A” standing for the mark of Excellence/Armenian. In October 2002, at the stated meeting the club was presented with their charter.

The members of the Awesome “A” Shrine Club, elected their first president Noble Sahag Boyamyan and his line of Officers. Since the club has been formed, the members of the Awesome “A” Shrine Club have dedicated their time and energy for the progress and growth of the club. The objective of the club is to support Al Malaikah Temple and to aid the children who are less fortunate. Specifically those who are in dire need of assistance and services of the Shrine Hospital For Children in Los Angeles. The Shrine Hospital of Los Angeles established in 1952 has been helping children from around the world under the auspices of the Imperial Shrine. In February 2013, the Awesome “A” Shrine Club sponsored their first child who was in dire need of our services and of the Shrine Hospital. The child traveled from Armenia and was admitted to the shrine hospital in Los Angeles where she had her surgery successfully on September 23, 2003.

In January 2013 the Awesome “A” Shrine Club sponsored a second child and the nine year old boy from Iraq is awaiting results from the medical staff at Shriners Hospital for Children. In May of 2012 we had our 10th anniversary and have not looked back, continuing to forge ahead as one of the most active clubs with Al Malaikah Shriners. The Club is very involved and supportive with most Al Malaikah Temple events and has been prospering due to the dedication of its hard working nobles. We are very proud of what we do and will continue to do all we can for the children that need us, and most of all have fun doing it!
